From Self-Assessment to Certification
Every GreenEvents-certified event starts with a structured self-assessment covering 13 sustainability categories. It helps you evaluate your event’s impact across all key areas — from energy consumption and waste management to staff well-being and impact on the community.
Based on your self-assessment, you can choose the certification level that best suits your event. GreenEvents offers two levels, with names inspired by the natural treasures of the Baltic region — Quartz and Amber.
Quartz — The Foundation for Sustainability
Quartz is the GreenEvents entry-level certification, demonstrating that an event meets the essential sustainability requirements.
To receive the Quartz certificate, an event must meet all 11 mandatory criteria. These are the minimum requirements that every certified event must fulfil, regardless of its size or type.
Once compliance has been confirmed, you receive a digital Quartz certificate demonstrating that your event meets the GreenEvents baseline standard.
Amber — Going a Step Further
Amber builds on Quartz rather than replacing it, allowing events to demonstrate a higher level of sustainability ambition.
To achieve the Amber level, an event must meet all 11 mandatory criteria, as well as at least 10 additional optional criteria from a broader set of requirements. These include areas such as sustainability certifications for the venue, cultural heritage protection, responsible wastewater management, and other sustainability practices.
Unlike the Quartz level, Amber applications undergo a full independent audit, providing additional assurance of the sustainability practices achieved.
Quartz or Amber?
In short:
Quartz — you have met the GreenEvents baseline requirements.
Amber — you have gone a step further by meeting additional sustainability criteria and having your achievements verified through an independent audit.
Not sure where to start? Begin with the self-assessment on the GreenEvents platform. It will help you understand where you are today and identify what is needed to reach the next level.
Sustainability is not one big step — it starts with the first choice.
Quartz or Amber — which certification level is right for your event?
GreenEvents offers two certification levels: Quartz, the entry point for every organiser, and Amber, the advanced level for events that go further. Here's what actually separates them.
